Some neighborhoods have a homeowners association (HOA), which is a group for all homeowners in the designated neighborhood. Membership is mandatory for all homeowners. The membership fees may be used to maintain community landscaping, maintain the recreation facility and provide security. The association sets guidelines for the area and hires a property management company. Issues the association deals with include building issues, street lighting, beautification, crime and social events. The HOA can enforce rules regarding exterior home maintenance (including paint color), landscaping, commercial use of property, control of trash, fences, storage of boats and RVs, pets, basketball hoops, parking on the street, etc. When you move in you should receive information about the particular HOA’s regulations.
